RailUSA’s Tallahassee-based Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad (FGA) was awarded a $7,763,119 grant for their Northeast Florida Rural Railyard Project. The grant was awarded through the US Department of Transportation’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program, which is managed by the Federal Railroad Administration.
The focus of the project is to build a new railyard in Baker County, Florida, which will drastically improve the efficiency of FGA’s operations by allows them to stage trains there instead of hauling all freight 125 miles west to Tallahassee, FL prior to interchange with CSX in Baldwin, FL.
The railyard will be the anchor for a new transload facility and provide rail access to the future Woodstock Industrial Site, a premier industrial mega site to be built between I-10 and US-90.
