HONDO, TX – October 30, 2026 – Hondo Railway, a Pinsly railroad, will receive $8.3 million through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program for Hondo Railway’s Safety Performance and Upgrades for Rail (SPUR) Project. The Federal Railroad Administration is an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).
Hondo Railway has partnered with the Hondo Economic Development Corporation to provide the 30% non-Federal match for the SPUR Project. The project includes track construction and new switches required to reconfigure Hondo Railway’s interchange tracks. These improvements will create bi-directional rail access for UP and BNSF and increase siding capacity, enhancing safety, system and service performance, and reliability while reducing blocked crossings in the community.
“This project will help us meet the needs of our customers and strengthen Hondo’s role as a place to do business,” said Miles Lee, Executive Vice President. “We’re grateful to the Hondo Economic Development Corporation, Texas DOT and the Federal Railroad Administration for supporting this investment in Hondo’s future.”
Hondo Railway operates a rail terminal in Hondo, Texas, serving customers that ship a range of commodities that support the construction, manufacturing and energy industries. It is owned by Pinsly Railroad Company, a short line railroad holding company that owns 10 short line railroads across the country: Camp Chase Railway; Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad Company; Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad; Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad; Grenada Railroad; Hondo Railway; Kankakee, Beaverville and Southern Railroad Company; North Florida Industrial Railroad; Pioneer Valley Railroad; and Vermilion Valley Railroad Company.
