Jacksonville, Florida – July 2, 2026 — As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, Pinsly Railroad Company is celebrating the essential role short line and regional railroads play in connecting communities, supporting industry and strengthening the American economy. To commemorate the milestone, Pinsly has updated locomotives across its network with America’s 250th anniversary logos.
Since the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ushered in common-carrier rail transportation in 1827, railroads have helped unite communities, expand commerce and fuel industrial growth across the United States. Pinsly Railroad Company is one of the short line industry’s oldest names, tracing its roots to 1938, when Samuel M. Pinsly purchased and rehabilitated the hurricane-damaged Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington Railroad in Massachusetts and Vermont. Following the Staggers Rail Act of 1980, Pinsly continued to grow, including its 1982 acquisition of the Pioneer Valley Railroad Company, which still operates under the Pinsly brand.
Today, Pinsly carries forward that legacy through a focus on safety, customer service, community engagement and strategic investment in the railroads and communities it serves. Pinsly currently owns nine short line railroads: Grenada Railroad, Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad, Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad, Vermilion Valley Railroad, Camp Chase Railway, Pioneer Valley Railroad, Hondo Railway, North Florida Industrial Railroad, and Georgiana and Andalusia Railroad.
Pinsly is part of a network of more than 600 Class II and III railroads that operate more than one-third of the nation’s rail system. These “first and last mile” carriers connect rural communities and local industries to national and global markets, providing cost-effective freight service to businesses that depend on rail access. Across its footprint—from the Florida Panhandle and Mississippi to communities such as Hondo, Texas; Westfield, Massachusetts; and La Crosse, Indiana—Pinsly helps attract business investment, create jobs, reduce highway congestion and strengthen local economies.
For generations, railroads have connected America. Pinsly remains committed to delivering opportunity, advancing innovation and investing in the infrastructure that will help power the nation’s next 250 years.
