by Jared Sleeth

The Grenada Mississippi Economic Development District is pleased to announce the completion of a rail spur into its 1175-acre Business & Technology Park.  Rail service will be provided by the Grenada Railroad (GRYR) which operates 180 miles of main line paralleling Interstate 55 from Memphis, TN to Canton, MS.

Daily interchanges in Memphis with BNSF, Canadian National (CN), CSX, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific will allow tenants of the Park to access to over 141,000 miles of North American rail infrastructure and ports on both coasts and the Gulf.  An additional CN interchange in Canton provides connection the ports of Mobile, New Orleans and Baton Rouge.  Via CN in Canton, a connection to Kansas City Southern and its 6,000 miles of track in the central US and Mexico is available.   These connections greatly increase Park tenant’s competitiveness in the world market.

With its new rail access, the Grenada Business & Technology Industrial Park hopes to take advantage of the areas abundance of skilled labor and natural resources to attract businesses in the manufacturing and forest products sectors.  With utilities already in place and fast access to I-55, the opening of the rail spur will help the GBTIP become one of the most sought-after development sites in the region.
